Immediate Implant Placement Q & A

Why should I get an immediate tooth implant?

Missing a tooth affects your appearance, speech, bite, and what you can eat. Losing a tooth forces your remaining teeth to shift, and it may make them wear out more quickly. You may also experience jaw pain or headaches with missing teeth.

Missing teeth also are linked to bone loss. When a tooth is missing, the jawbone that's left behind erodes over time. Generally, people lose 25% to 50% of their supporting jawbone in the first year after tooth loss.

Dental implants work just like your natural teeth, safeguarding your smile and preserving your bone structure, oral health, and appearance. Ueno Center Dental Specialists offers immediate implant replacement, providing the convenience of getting your new tooth replacement the same day.

How do I get an immediate implant placement?

In some situations, your Ueno Center Dental Specialists surgeon removes your tooth and replaces it immediately with an implant. Whether this option is appropriate for you depends on the quality of your bone and whether you’re healthy enough to have this procedure.

What happens during immediate implant placement?

Your provider at Ueno Center Dental Specialists uses a special in-house 3D X-ray to evaluate the quality and quantity of your jaw structure. If you have enough bone, they place an immediate implant placement at the same time as your extraction.

They then place a bone graft in your tooth socket to properly secure your implant in place. They may fabricate a temporary tooth and install it on your implant at the same time!

Your temporary tooth is typically made from acrylic. Ueno Center Dental Specialists doesn’t recommend keeping the temporary tooth more than four to six months, as infections and inflammation may occur as the temporary will degrade over time, unlike the permanent implant tooth that will be installed once your body fully accepts your implant. However, it helps shape your gums and gives you a nice smile while your permanent tooth is being custom made for you.

When do I get a permanent tooth on my implant?

After a three to four-month healing period, you return to Ueno Center Dental Specialists to begin the process of getting your new tooth. Your permanent tooth will be installed by your restorative dentist. You can enjoy a lasting, natural-looking smile with this final implant crown.

For a long-lasting, healthy smile without the inconvenience of multiple appointments, consider the advantages of immediate implant placement. To find out if you’re a candidate for immediate implant placement, call the office today or request a consultation online.
